James Mowat Elementary School is a K-6 school serving approximately 370 students each year from the westernmost part of Fort Saskatchewan. In addition to the regular elementary curriculum for grades 1 to 6, the school offers a comprehensive music program at all grade levels and French as a Second Language is taught in grades 4 to 6. Students attend ten class periods per day and each class is 30 minutes in length.
Our Jay PRIDE Award encourages and recognizes outstanding pride in our school - Preparation, Respect, Integrity, Discipline and Excellence. Our Character Education Program promotes and supports the Safe and Caring Schools concept in the following ways: weekly circle time, Jay PRIDE Awards, and citizenship projects.
Our school counsellor is in our school every Tuesday and Friday all day as well as all alternating Wednesdays. She helps support students and teachers as they work with our students. A Speech Therapist comes to the school once a week to provide assistance to students in Kindergarten as well as some students in grade 1-6 with speech, language and hearing difficulties.
A number of extracurricular activities are available to students throughout the school year.
